Want rail service along the I-20 Corridor? TxDOT wants to know your thoughts

The Texas Department of Transportation wants your input. The agency is conducting a study of Interstate 20 from the I-10 junction in Reeves County, in far West Texas, all the way to the Louisiana border.
Besides comments on how you use I-20 in your vehicle, the study is also looking at multi-modal ideas to improve East-West flow of people and goods..... like passenger and freight rail.
"We want survey participation from the entire corridor", according to Cary Karnstadt from TxDOT. "We want input from all stakeholders, including residents, corridor users, members of the business community, employers, advocacy groups, and others."
If you live near the 636 mile-long I-20 Corridor or use it for business or pleasure, TxDOT has set up a website survey to get your thoughts. You can go the TxDOT website www.txdot.gov and then search for "I-20 Texas Corridor Study".
East-West freight rail movement along or near the entire I-20 Corridor is primarily the domain of Union Pacific Railroad. The only passenger rail service at present is the once-daily Amtrak Texas Eagle that runs from Fort Worth through Dallas, Mineola and Longview to Marshall near the Louisiana border.
The public survey is part of the ongoing I-20 TxDOT study that involves three appointed Segment Working Groups and a Corridor Steering Committee comprised of mayors, county judges, municipal planning organizations, business and industry segments and interested parties including Texas Rail Advocates. Tarrant County Judge B. Glenn Whitley is leading the Steering Committee.
TxDOT wants to know how you presently use the corridor, what issues and needs should be addressed and any other feedback you have to improve the corridor by any means of transportation.
Many of the segment committee members have already indicated a desire to study and understand how regional or intercity passenger rail could be accomplished along or near the I-20 Corridor and the benefits that passenger rail could bring to both business and the general public.
The survey can be taken on a computer, smart phone, or tablet. It will be available in English and Spanish. If requested, a paper copy of the survey will be made available for mailing. The survey will be available until December 10, 2021.
The three Segment Working Groups studying the corridor are divided into:
West – I-10 to Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
Central – DFW Metroplex
East – DFW Metroplex to Texas/Louisiana State Line
