Move is a victory for those that celebrate small government and free market principles

With the 2019 legislative session in the rear view mirror, Texans looking to build a competitive and efficient transportation infrastructure for their state can breathe a sigh of relief. The Texas legislature had a number of rejected intrusive efforts that were designed to cripple high speed rail and protect the status quo.

Recent economic growth in Texas can be attributed to the state’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and innovators. By rejecting ill-advised regulations that were put forward at the behest of special interests, the state legislature protected Texan values that have helped the state succeed.  It is the aim of Texas Rail Advocates to foster an open, competitive environment that rewards the best transportation initiatives, and by helping to defeat meddlesome regulatory attempts, the market for the future of transportation infrastructure remains open.

“I want to thank all of the concerned citizens that voiced their opinions through e-mail, phones calls and even by making trips to Austin,” said Texas Rail Advocates President Peter LeCody. “By keeping government bureaucrats out of this fight, we are preserving a level playing field for all forms of transportation in Texas. High-speed rail will now be able to succeed on its own merits, without anyone placing their finger on the scales to protect their own special interests.”

Though the decision to reject dozens of pages of anti-high-speed rail regulatory bills should be celebrated, Texas Rail Advocates is encouraging citizens to stay involved in the process and continue campaigning for smart infrastructure solutions in the state. Continued population growth in Texas necessitates thinking beyond tollways and wider highways and byways and developing forward thinking alternatives that help Texas stay competitive with other thriving areas on the world stage. While the damaging bills are now dead, the campaign for advanced transportation infrastructure depends on the voices of everyday Texans to combat the influence of special interest groups aligned against expanding transportation options.
