Austin could have one of the busiest light rail lines in the nation, according to the group that's pushing City Council to add rail to a potential transportation-focused bond referendum this fall.
But Council would have to buy into the plan first, and with most members focused on Mayor Steve Adler's road-focused bond, there is no guarantee that council will get on board the train. In fact, it's unlikely.

Still, the Central Austin Community Development Corp. released a study Wednesday that claimed its proposed $400 million, 5.3-mile light rail line running down the Guadalupe and Lamar streets corridor would have average weekday ridership of 34,000 people. Or to put it another way, every mile of the proposed plan would generate 6,415 average weekday riders. That's near the ridership achieved by Boston's popular green line of 7,162 people on board per mile per day, the Central Austin CDC claims.
