A revived proposal for a commuter rail line from the Texas Medical Center to Missouri City has commuters in the area optimistic, and some already considering another step.
After Metropolitan Transit Authority officials announced they were pursuing options for federal funding after a nearly four-year hiatus of work on the rail line, commuters looking forward to riding rather than driving immediately cheered.
“Can they start next week?” southwest Houston resident Michael Reed, 46, wrote in an email. “I’m all for it.”
Despite the excitement among some, the line remains years away from development and opening, officials said. Planning, however, is increasing, as some advocate for a more serious and focused effort to build the line.
