The future Cotton Belt Regional Rail is moving closer to becoming a reality, as Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) moves closer to federal and local approvals. The $1.1 billion railway will connect the Stockyards in Fort Worth to D/FW International Airport and end at Shiloh Road Station in Plano. Gary Thomas, DART president and executive director, recently discussed Cotton Belt’s progress and its impact on Plano.
In the future rail line, Plano has two connections – the 12th Street Station and the Shiloh Road Station near Murphy. Residents and Plano City Council members have expressed support for these connections, mainly because when the line opens, commuters should be able to reach D/FW Airport in an hour, Downtown Carrollton in 30 minutes, Addison in 22 and CityLine/Bush in four minutes.
