TRA board member Paul Mangelsdorf passed away

Funeral was held today for Paul Mangelsdorf, one of the founding members of Texas Rail Advocates who passed away July 28 while in hospice at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Paul had surgery July 15th and there were resulting complications.
Funeral Mass was held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas.
When TRA was formed in 2000 Paul was one of the first to promote the then designated South Central High Speed Rail Corridor that the U.S. Department of Transportation recognized as an important passenger rail corridor. Paul developed close working relationships with many in the transportation industry including former Federal Railroad Administration head Gil Carmichael.
Paul had years of experience in the sales and marketing field including work with Dallas Area Rapid Transit. He was active in efforts to bring light rail to Dallas. His work in the transportation industry included advocating the building of high speed rail in Texas and across North America. Paul enjoyed major league baseball, cycling and playing the piano. He was also the Executive Vice President of the Triangle Railroad Holding Co.
A plaque in commemoration of Paul's dedication to trains will be displayed in Dallas Union Station. The plaque describes Paul's 12 years with Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and his rail passion. The plaque is signed by DART President-Executive Director Gary Thomas.
Born to J.W. "Bill" Mangelsdorf Sr. and Ruth Frances Mangelsdorf. Pre Deceased by Parents and Brother, J.W. "Bill" Mangelsdorf Jr. Survived by: Sister Ann Mangelsdorf OSU, Sister, Mary (Tom) Benson; Brother, Thomas Vincent "T.V." (Lou Ann) Mangelsdorf; Sister, Betsy (Mick) Santoro. Numerous Nieces and Nephews and numerous Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews. Paul was very active in many organizations including Montserrat Retreat House as well as national and local chapters of Right to Life. He was a Lector at numerous parishes in the Diocese of Dallas. Paul loved the history of Trains and was a strong supporter of High Speed Rail as well as DART. His favorite team was the Texas Rangers. He loved his employment at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
